Weekend’s Premier League action

| September 24th, 2008

A bit late as I have been away but here are last weekends Premier League results, with Newcastle and Spurs still struggling while Stoke earn a battling point at Anfield.

Sunderland 2 - 0 Middlesbrough
Blackburn 1 - 0 Fulham
Liverpool 0 - 0 Stoke City
West Ham 3 - 1 Newcastle
Bolton 1 - 3 Arsenal
West Brom 1 - 2 Aston Villa
Chelsea 1 - 1 Man Utd
Hull City 2 - 2 Everton
Man City 6 - 0 Portsmouth
Tottenham 0 - 0 Wigan

Sunderland won their local derby by beating Middlesbrough 2-0 with a double from Michael Chopra getting them 3 points they didn’t deserve. Blackburn got their season back on track by beating Fulham 1-0 with a goal from sub Matt Derbyshire. Liverpool’s good start to the season came to a little halt with a 0-0 draw at home to Stoke City with Gerrard having a goal disallowed that many think should of been allowed. Newcastle’s woes continues with a 3-1 defeat to West Ham in Zola’s first game in charge with 2 goals from David di Michele and a third from Etherington before Owen pulled one back.

Arsenal turned on the style to beat Bolton despite falling behind to a Kevin Davies goal with Eboue equalising and Bendtner and Denilson sealing the win. Aston Villa continued their good start with a derby win over West Brom with goals from Agbonlahor and Carew for Villa and Morrison for West Brom. The big game of the weekend saw Manchester United and Chelsea draw 1-1 with Park giving Utd the lead before a late equaliser from Kalou meant it was one point apiece for each team. Everton came from 2 goals down to get a draw at Hull City, Hull had taken a 2-0 lead with goals from Michael Turner and a Phill Neville own goal before Everton fought back with goals from Cahill and Osman.

Manchester City went goal crazy against Portsmouth by beating them 6-0 with goals from Jo, Dunne, Robinho, Wright-Phillips, Evans and Gelson and Spurs were booed off after another poor display at home to Wigan.

Well, I saw the Liverpool v Stoke game and Liverpool dominated but lacked class in the final third and were restricted to long range shots and not many on target! Also saw the Chelsea - Man Utd game and felt a draw was maybe fair, the best part of the game was Ronaldo’s dive with his turning in mid air!

Elsewhere Arsenal have started like they did last season really with some very good football while Hull pick up another precious point as well and I got told Wright Phillips was excellent for City, good to see his form coming back as he was excellent before he left for Chelsea!
